The Ultimate Victoria's Secret Workout

What does it take to train like a Victoria’s Secret model? Slick athleisure? Green juice on tap? Sumptuous marble changing rooms? The secret is out.

Nestled in the heart of Central London, minutes from celebrity hotspot Chiltern Firehouse, lies a sparkling new fitness mecca. With state-of-the-art equipment, plush Bergmann Interiors fittings, Malin & Goetz products in the changing rooms and a dream team founding committee, BXR is the Harrods of fitness.

Launched by IBF Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua and founded by Victoria’s Secret Angels Sara Sampaio and Maryna Linchuk along with DJ Mark Ronson and property magnate Andre Balazs, BXR is the latest members-only gym that’s bringing celebrity-style training to the rest of us.

Boxing has long been credited for honing some of the fashion world’s most famous physiques - Gigi Hadid and Joan Smalls to name a few - and it’s at the heart of BXR’s unique two-strand concept. Upstairs, there’s the private invitation-only boxing gym (Ellie Goulding has already paid a visit); downstairs houses three pay-as-you train studios, similar to the likes of Barry’s Bootcamp and Psycle.

So what makes BXR unique in the crowded boutique fitness market? Firstly, there’s the exclusivity of it all; only the annual members get full access to the upstairs area. With an intimidatingly large boxing ring at the centre and the words "train like a fighter" ingrained above a bespoke Muhammad Ali mural, it’s Rocky meets Million Dollar Baby. This is where a prestigious few will have the privilege of training alongside ex-champion boxers and MMA fighters, the idea being that you can work out like a professional athlete.

Launching in late February is Sweat by BXR which will consist of three different pay-to-train classes. Rather than high intensity, high impact cardio workouts that can be strenuous on your joints, the classes will focus on building skills, strength and technique. That’s not to say that they aren’t tough - there's no way you’re walking out the door sweat-free.

The real star of the show is the versa-climber class, the machine that apparently burns more calories per minute than any other. It’s a full body, no-impact cardio workout where the aim is to climb to the beat, as if you’re dancing. It specifically targets your glutes, legs and back, leaving you with a toned, tight behind after only a few sessions (no wonder that it’s so favoured by the lithe-limbed VS ladies).

Once you’ve finished sweating like an angel, there’s a selection of post-workout shakes on offer at the in-house Joe & the Juice; and the aftercare doesn’t stop there. The minute you sign up, you’re entitled to a sit-down with a BXR lifestyle manager who will help establish your personal goals and create a bespoke training plan with you. There’s even an in-house clinic where both BXR members and pay-to-train clients can treat themselves to reflexology, osteopathy and deep tissue massage.
Those Victoria's Secret bodies don’t come cheap. Membership starts at £1,500 per annum, while the pay-as-you-train classes are £30, with subsidisation if you buy in bulk. Yes, it’s expensive. But with 150 founding members already punching their troubles away, they’re clearly doing something right.
